project: Fabio Revetria, Lara Sappa
client: Selucente
year: 2022
The renovation of the former rye barn was carried out as part of the project for the re-functioning of the Alpisella alpine hamlet, aimed at creating an innovative accommodation facility named Selucente. The hamlet is located at an altitude of 1,000 metres in the Ligurian Alps, on the border between Liguria and Piedmont.
The renovation work led to the replacement of the old roofing, structural consolidation of the masonry, and the construction of a new internal mezzanine to house the sleeping area. The structure of the new roof was made of wood and is topped with wood fibre insulation enclosed by a double planking; the external covering is made of corrugated corten steel sheets.
The achievement of the minimum internal height was made possible by constructing two new full-height dormer windows overlooking the Upper Tanaro Valley to the south and the forest to the north.
